Roger Ebert's Journal

Mr Ebert decided to ask a few questions about an episode of Glenn Beck ~ seems Glenn has been a bit more erratic than usual...and I think these questions are exactly what normal folk need answered ...

Let the Duel Begin...

Glenn Beck has been 'covering' himself for quite a few years behind this little 'religion' thing.

Constantly pointing out his 'friends' and 'ties' with the fundamentalist Dominionist set.

He's like "Howdy Doody meets John Birch Society meets Armageddon-R-US"; a trifecta of testosterone bottled and wrapped inna US flag, sitting on a bible.

Or a Book of Mormon.

Or whatever that mixture of "White Horse Prophecy" plus "shock jock" passes for 'free speech in the name of religion' (make sure to note that 501c3 on your 'donation' ThankUVeryMuch) today.

It's called tribalism and nationalism disguised as a religion.

Known as Dominionists.

Using religious ideology as a form of national government. A theocracy.

Definitely UN-American.

From today's 'message', it seems Glenn has decided to cut bait with any sort of 'normal' Republican entity, and double-down with his Hagee.

Will Glenn renounce his membership in the Mormon religion?

Can't have it both ways.

You are either a Christian or a Mormon.

Nothing 'slightly pregnant' about this.

We're talking a REAL 'apples and oranges' situation of utmost importance.

It has much to do with 'good and evil' ~

Let's Review: Dominionists and Their Enablers

Many were wondering about the latest episode of Beck's show, with him appearing before the camera at the beginning, dressed in a rather ill-fitted brown 'robe' and fingering a rather over-embellished 'rod' (which was hand-made for him by an eager fan).

Well, wonder no more. This interview will clear up any questions you might have.

Here is Glenn Beck interviewing a familiar figure from the "Armaggedon and End Timers Club" , John Hagee ~ 'minister' of the Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Tx.

He is also a powerful figure in social battles ~ pick a social issue to scream about, and Hagee's money and backing is behind it.

He is the face of fundamentalist Dominionists. And a real bane to mainstream religion.

There are 7 sections to this ~ take your time.

Stop, walk away and go smell the flowers for a bit.

But, do try to go through the whole thing.

It will clear up many questions many of us have about Glenn, his motives, and his enablers.

After the action in Rancho Mirage towards the Koch Bros, I think it's time to 'refresh' our memories.

The Perpetual Political Machinery that the extreme rightwing has developed over years is now considered 'middle of the road' ~ the slippery slope now is a mudslide.

This situation has been building (literally) for quite awhile-under the radar, but insidiously embedded in every crevice of our public institutions.
"Moderate" is now someone who wants you to never raise their taxes and to keep your damned hands off their Medicare.
The phrasing and comments are always the same ~ no matter what type of forum or outlet.

It's quite Borg-like.

There is the piece Molly Ivins wrote that started my blogging and researching.

Without futher ado,

String Those Stinkin Chickens by Molly Ivins:

A few days after the 2004 elections, the late Molly Ivins found a small sliver of a silver lining in the reelection of George W. Bush.

If the GOP nominee runs against Bush, he risks alienating the GOP base, none of whom he can afford to lose. If he runs with the president, he'll have a very hard time peeling off 20 or 30 percent of independents, without whom he cant win.

Some people think you cannot break a dog that has got in the habit of killin’ chickens, but my friend John Henry always claimed you could. He said the way to do it is to take one of the chickens the dog has killed and wire the thing around the dog’s neck, good and strong. And leave it there until that dead chicken stinks so bad that no other dog or person will even go near that poor beast. Thing’ll smell so bad the dog won’t be able to stand himself. You leave it on there until the last little bit of flesh rots and falls off, and that dog won’t kill chickens again.

The Bush administration is going to be wired around the neck of the American people for four more years, long enough for the stench to sicken everybody. It should cure the country of electing Republicans.

So, I'll keep bringing those stinkin chickens to roost. Onward!
